Beginners Beekeeping Course 2025
February 8, 2025 @ 9:30 am - February 9, 2025 @ 4:30 pm
£90Coventry Beekeepers will be running a two day introductory course for “Beginners to Beekeeping”. The Course is intended to be the first step for anyone who wants to find out more about Beekeeping or is thinking of taking it up as a hobby.
Dave Bonner, the course tutor, says that “Anyone who wants to find out more about Beekeeping and what is involved would benefit from the course. There is a general view that you get a hive of bees, put it in the garden and harvest the honey. The reality is not quite like that.”
The course will cover
- Bee behaviour, Swarm control, Queen rearing.
- How to keep bees healthy and how to identify Bee Diseases.
- Honey – how to harvest it, process it and the law with respect to selling it.
- The equipment needed and where that can be bought.
- How to choose an apiary site.
- How to get involved, joining associations, getting your first bees.
Dave says “Beekeeping is a skill that you can learn and this course is very much an introduction, a starting point. Beekeeping is a fascinating and challenging hobby. There are so many facets to it. You can produce honey to sell, undertake Queen rearing, learn about Beeswax and how to use that, Mead making or, like me, end up going to Africa with the charity “Bees Abroad” and use the skill to teach communities how to keep bees and how to earn money to relieve their poverty.”
An opportunity to put on a beesuit and handle bees at the Coventry Branch Apiary will also be offered at a later date (when it is warmer!).
The course will take place over the 8/9 February weekend 2025. Starting at 09.30am on Saturday morning.
