The objective is to provide people with an insight into beekeeping and what is involved in this fascinating pastime.
The programme for the session will be:
Two group sessions which will cover the many different aspects of beekeeping, including:
- The beekeeping year
- Setting up an apiary
- Bee Behaviour and the role of the Beekeeper.
- The equipment required
- How honey is extracted and then processed ready for sale.
The third session will be when attendees will wear a beesuit and go into the apiary to look inside a live colony of bees. These sessions will be led by an experienced beekeeper.
At the end of the afternoon participants will be given a ‘Goody Bag’ of honey, wax and items of Beekeeping things.
A Certificate of Attendance will also be given to participants.
Full length protective bee suits will be provided. We request that you bring along your wellies or boots that protect the ankles.
You should wear long-sleeved top and stout trousers
Any person under the age of 18 on the day must be accompanied by an Adult for the whole afternoon.
